Overview
  • VIS aims to provide the students, a systematic approach to education in the ICSE syllabus and be one of the top ICSE schools in Chennai.
  • The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) is synonymous with high quality of education and a commitment to excellence.
  • In accordance with the recommendations of the New Education Policy 1986, the Council conducts two examinations – The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (Class X) and Indian School Certificate (Class XII).
  • For those inclined, ICSE curriculum will be offered up to Class X.
  • The subjects and textbooks will be as per the recommendations of the CISCE.

ICSE (For Grades V to X)

Assessment
  • All subjects have components of internal assessment on the basis of assignments/project work, practical sessions and coursework.
  • Subjects in Groups I & Group II carry a 20% weightage for internal assessment while subjects in Group III carry 50% weightage.
  • At the end of Grade X, the candidates are required to enrol for six subjects from Groups I, II and III.
  • The assessment in “Socially Useful Productive Work and Community Service” will be conducted by the School and the result will count towards the award of the Certificate.

Registration
  • The school will register the students with the Council in class 9 in the month of August of the academic year.
  • No candidate shall be permitted to change his/her subjects after registration in class 9.

IGCSE (For Grades V to X)

Overview
  • Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is one of the most recognized qualifications around the world.
  • The Cambridge curriculum are renowned for developing vital educational skills including recall of knowledge, oral skills, problem solving, initiative, team work and investigative skills.
  • VIS aims to be one of the top IGCSE schools in Chennai. Students are encouraged to study a wide range of subjects set by Cambridge, which is taught with one-point assessment objective (application based) of CAIE (Cambridge Assessment International Education).
  • The course differs for each subject, but there will be a mix of assessment methods throughout including coursework, practical exercises, oral and listening tests, projects and written examinations.

IGCSE (For Grades V to X)

Examination
  • Cambridge IGCSE examination takes place at the end of Grade X and can include written, oral, coursework and practical assessment.
  • Examinations are held in June and November each year with results declared in August and February respectively.
  • Students will appear for Cambridge IGCSE examination through VIS, which will be an authorized CAIE Centre.
  • Cambridge conducts IGCSE examinations in two sessions –November & June in any Calendar year. Students are allowed to appear in successive sessions and carry forward the subject grades for their higher education (Grade 11 & 12).

Learning Outcome
  • The IGCSE qualification provides a foundation for higher level courses, such as A and AS Levels, the Advanced International Certificate of Education, the North American Advanced Placement Programme and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
  • An IGCSE certification enjoys a global reputation, which counts towards entry to universities and colleges around the world.

IGCSE (For Grades V to X)

Certification
  • There are no compulsory subjects in obtaining IGCSE certificate. The students taking one or more subjects at any session of IGCSE examination will be provided with the IGCSE certificate in the subjects offered, provided that the student satisfies the pass criteria in the subject(s) offered.
  • VIS recommends that a student takes any two of the languages offered in our school from Group I.
  • Students in VIS are recommended to opt for at least one subject each from the groups II, III, IV & V.
  • Students who are planning to pursue Mathematics and Sciences Stream at Senior School Level (Gr. 11 & 12), will be required to do Mathematics from Group IV and all the 3 Sciences from Group III.
  • Students in VIS will be counselled to take at least 7 subjects in all for the IGCSE Examination.
  • A minimum of 5 ‘C’ subject grades in IGCSE examinations are essential requirements to join Grade 11 in any good senior school curriculum.
  • A student appearing for IGCSE examination will be able to receive ‘International Certificate of Education ICE’ provided he/she satisfies the criteria set by CAIE.
  • A student hoping to receive ICE must enter and sit for at least 7 subjects in all - two from Group 1 and at least one subject each from the Groups 2, 3, 4 & 5.

ISC (For Grades XI to XII)

Overview
  • Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) is synonymous with high quality of education and a commitment to excellence.

Assessment
  • Internal assessments are conducted for all subjects on the basis of assignments/project work, practical work and coursework.
  • The Indian School Certificate Examination is held after completing two years beyond the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (Year 10) examination or its equivalent.

Registration
  • Candidates who have been awarded Pass Certificates in the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education Examination with Passes in five subjects including English are eligible to register for ISC.
  • The school will register the students with the council in class 11 in the month of August of the academic year.
